Betty's Journey
Betty White, unsurprisingly, was the most talked about contestant preseason, and also a favorite to win among many fans. They say although she may do poorly, she definitely has the fanbase to back her up. Betty jokingly agreed and told the media that she was going to win.
In Week 1, Betty and Corky danced a Foxtrot to "Thank You For Being A Friend" (the theme song to Betty's show, The Golden Girls) by Andrew Gold. The judges criticized it, with Judge Bruno Tonioli comparing Betty to Oprah Winfrey. The judges awarded it with a 22 out of 40 for the night, landing them in seventh place for the night.
In Week 2, Betty and Corky danced a Viennese Waltz to "She's Got A Way" by Billy Joel. The judges again criticized the dance, with Judge Len Goodman saying it was quite dull and had no movement. They were given 22 points for the night, landing them in fifteenth place for the night.
In Week 3, Betty and Corky danced a Paso Doble to "Black Betty" by Ram Jam. The judges mostly liked the dance, with Judge Valerie Hashburntar hoping Betty did well in the competition. They were given 25 points for the night, landing them in twelfth place for the night.
In Week 4, Betty ditched Corky to dance a Waltz with Danny Trejo to "The Rose" by Bette Midler. Together, they tried their hardest but did not fully impress the judges. The judges (including former contestant Nicole Kidman) gave the dance 28 points. When they later danced to a Rumba to "Alone" by Kristin Chenoweth as part of Team Kamie (Crawford), the dance did not go over well, either. The older celebrities (Betty included) weighed down the romance of the dance to make the judges (including former winner Kamie Crawford) only give it 30 points. They ended the night with 58 out of 80.
In Week 5, Betty and Corky danced a Rumba to "From This Moment On" by Shania Twain. The judges criticized the dance and gave it a 24 out of 40. Betty and Corky then danced with the other couples left to a Salsa Marathon (with music provided by "Saca Tu Mujer" by Tito Puente). Betty and Corky were eliminated first and in reward, got an additional point to their previous score, giving them a total of 25 for the night.
In Week 6 (Disney Week), Betty and Corky danced a Quickstep to "Zip-A-Dee-Do-Dah" by Bob B. Sox from Song of the South. The judges mostly liked the dance, giving it a 28 out of 40. Betty and Corky then danced a Samba to "Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride" by Mark Keali'i Ho'omalu from Lilo & Stitch. The judges raved about the dance and gave it a 32 out of 40 (the first time this season that Betty, herself, had ever scored over 30 points), giving Betty and Corky a total of 60 out of 80 for the night. On elimination night, Betty and Corky were surprisingly given the encore performance for the week for their Samba.
For Week 7, Betty and Corky danced a Waltz to "At Last" by Etta James. The judges admired the dance, with Valerie Hashburntar hoping Betty would make the finals, and gave the dance a 27 out of 40. Betty and Corky were shockingly placed in the bottom-two this week with Denzel Washington and Cheryl Burke, who were eliminated in their favor.
In Week 8 (Christmas Week), Betty and Corky danced a Foxtrot to "Let It Snow" by Michael Buble. The judges liked the dance, giving it a 29 out of 40. Betty and Corky then danced a surprise Cha-Cha-Cha to "Christmas Wrapping" by the Waitresses, which they only had 45 minutes to master. The judges liked this dance even more and gave it a 32 out of 40, giving Betty and Corky a total of 61 out of 80 for the night.
For Week 9, Betty and Corky danced an Argentine Tango to "Cite Tango" by Gotan Project. The judges enjoyed the dance's intensity, giving it a 27 out of 40. Betty and Corky then danced an Instant Jive to "The Clapping Song" by Shirley Ellis. The judges did not favor this dance and gave it a 24 out of 40, giving Betty and Corky a total of 51 out of 80 for the night. Betty and Corky landed in the bottom-two again this week, this time with Emma Stone and Corky's son, Mark. Betty and Corky were shockingly saved as Emma was sent home, with Mark being eliminated during the semi-finals for his second season in a row.
In Week 10 (The Semi Finals), Betty and Corky danced a Deja Vu dance to Eva's Paso Doble from Week 3. They danced to "Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga, scoring 25 out of 40 points. They then followed that up with a Tango to "Bitch Came Back" by Theory Of A Deadman. That dance scored 28 out of 40, giving Betty and Corky a total of 53 out of 80 for the night. On elimination night, Betty found herself in the bottom-two for the third time this season. Sadly, this time she was not as lucky, as she was eliminated one week shy of the finals.
