Denzel Washington
Denzel Hayes Washington, Jr. (born December 28, 1954) is an American actor, screenwriter, director and film producer. He first rose to prominence when he joined the cast of the medical drama St. Elsewhere, playing Dr. Philip Chandler for six years. He has received much critical acclaim for his work in film since the 1990s, including for his portrayals of real-life figures, such as Steve Biko, Malcolm X, Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, Melvin B. Tolson, Frank Lucas, and Herman Boone. Washington has received two Academy Awards, two Golden Globe awards, and a Tony Award. He is notable for winning the Best Supporting Actor for Glory in 1989; and the Academy Award for Best Actor in 2001 for his role in the film Training Day, the only African-American man to win both acting Oscars.
Cheryl Burke
Cheryl Stephanie Burke (born May 3, 1984) is a professional dancer. She is best known for being the first two-time champion of ABC's American version of Dancing with the Stars. Burke won her first championship with 98 Degrees member Drew Lachey in the second season. She won her second championship with retired football star Emmitt Smith in the third season. Burke had a guest role on the Disney Channel series The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, in the episode "Loosely Ballroom" along with fellow Dancing professionals Louis van Amstel, Ashly DelGrosso, and Lacey Schwimmer. She portrays Shannon, a nurse attending to the ensemble cast during a dance contest at the series setting, The Tipton Hotel. In the final round of the competition, Burke's character volunteers to replace an ill competitor. She and her partner go on to win the competition.

Denzel's Journey
Critics loved the pairing of Denzel and Cheryl. Denzel, preseason, was the most favored man of the competition. Cheryl Burke even told reporters that he was doing phenomenal in training. She feels that she could win with Denzel!
In Week 1, Denzel and Cheryl danced a Foxtrot to "Pride & Joy" by Marvin Gaye. The judges liked it, with Judge Len Goodman calling it the best dance of the week. The judges awarded it with a 29 out of 40 for the night, landing them in third place for the night.
In Week 2, Denzel and Cheryl danced a Jive to "Shake, Rattle, & Roll" by Huey Lewis. The judges mostly loved the dance, with Judge Valerie Hashburntar asking to see much more of his dancing. They were given 31 points for the night, landing them in a tie for fifth place with Emma Stone.
In Week 3, Denzel and Cheryl danced a Waltz to "Candle In The Wind" by Elton John. The judges were amazed by the dance, with Judge Elena Grinenko telling Denzel he made women melt in front of their TV's. They were given 39 points for the night, landing them in second place for the night.
In Week 4, Denzel ditched Cheryl to dance a Cha-Cha-Cha with Beyoncé to "Forget You" by Cee-Lo Green. Together, they were praised for their excellent job as a team and making the dance stand out as truly memorable. The judges (including former contestant Ke$ha) gave the dance 38 points. When they later danced to a Rumba to "Alone" by Kristin Chenoweth as part of Team Kamie (Crawford), the dance did not go over as well. The older celebrities weighed down the romance of the dance to make the judges (including former winner Kamie Crawford) only give it 30 points. They ended the night with 68 out of 80. On elimination night, Denzel received the encore for his Cha-Cha-Cha along with Beyoncé, who was shockingly eliminated later that night.
In Week 5, Denzel and Cheryl danced a Rumba to "What's Love Got To Do With It" by Tina Turner. The judges really liked the dance and gave it a 37 out of 40. Denzel and Cherylthen danced with the other couples left to a Salsa Marathon (with music provided by "Saca Tu Mujer" by Tito Puente). Denzel and Cheryl were eliminated seventh and in reward, got 7 additional points to their previous score, giving them a total of 44 for the night.
In Week 6 (Disney Week), Denzel and Cheryl danced a Quickstep to "The Bare Necessities" by Phil Harris from the Jungle Book. The judges really liked the dance, giving it a 37 out of 40. Denzel and Cheryl then danced a Paso Doble to "I'll Make A Man Out Of You" by Donny Osmond from Mulan. The judges did not like this dance and gave it a 33 out of 40, giving Denzel and Cheryl a total of 70 out of 80 for the night. Denzel and Cheryl sadly landed in the bottom-two this week, only to be saved by the elimination of Joel Courtney.

The judges liked the dance, telling Denzel he had made a good comeback, and gave the dance a 36 out of 40. Denzel and Cheryl again landed in the bottom-two this week along with Betty White and Corky Ballas. Denzel and Cheryl were eliminated in White's favor.
